Clinical and Forensic Psychologist

Dr. Davis has over twenty years of clinical experience and has worked in various mental health settings (i.e., community college and elementary school based, early childhood day care centers, adult day treatment and community-based outpatient) and with various populations (i.e., adults, children, families, and couples). Overall, his approach is warm, person-centered, and collaborative. Dr. Davis has extensive training in and understanding of family systems, psychodynamic, attachment, trauma, and multicultural focused psychotherapy, and thus adopts an eclectic approach to fit the unique needs of his patients.
Dr. Davis also began working as a psychologist in the field of forensic family law in 2013. He provides custody evaluations, brief focused assessments, family mediation, parenting coordination (special master) services, consultation to attorneys and expert witness testimony for court referred children and parents involved in post-divorce or separation high conflict scenarios. Additionally, Dr. Davis provides co-parenting therapy for parents in disagreement about parenting practices and philosophies, and he provides intensive re-unification for children and families wherein resistance and/or refusal dynamics are at play.
Dr. Davis also began working as a psychologist in the field of forensic family law in 2013. Clinical
Dr. Davis has worked in a private practice outpatient setting in Berkeley, California since 2009. During this time, he has developed expertise in working with K through 12th grade student athletes, college level student athletes and professional athletes. Dr. Davis also specializes in working with multi-ethnic and multi-racial families of adoption, and other contemporary family configurations.
Between 2006 and 2008, Dr. Davis acquired his pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training at the Ann Martin Center, a psychoanalytic based outpatient mental health agency located in Piedmont, California. In 2005, Dr. Davis trained at the Family Institute of Pinole, another outpatient psychotherapy agency, where he learned family systems psychotherapy and provided psychological testing to children and adolescents. In 2004, Dr. Davis trained at Rubicon Inc., a psychosocial rehabilitation-based day treatment program for adults who suffer from severe mental illness. Lastly, between 1998 and 2000, Dr. Davis provided psychotherapy to adults, children, families and couples as an intern at the John F. Kennedy Counseling Center located in Pleasant Hill.

Dr. Davis is qualified to work as a child custody evaluator, parenting coordinator/ special master, co-parenting therapist and re-unification therapist for children and families referred by the family court. With regard to Dr. Davis's work as a psychologist in the field of forensic family law, his areas of focus include the impact of grief on children and families going through a divorce and/or separation, domestic and international parental relocation, the impact of domestic abuse/violence on children and families and when children resist contact with a parent post-divorce or separation. In his role as psychologist in the field of forensic family law, Dr. Davis’s primary aim is get everyone to understand and do what is in the best interests of the child, and to keep parents out of the family court system. This is achieved through the development of a very detailed and clear parenting plan. Additionally, Dr. Davis helps children and families develop support systems involving both mental health and legal professionals who are willing to work collaboratively as opposed to in an adversarial manner. He also provides comprehensive psychological assessments and evaluations for children and adults referred by the family court. Lastly, Dr. Davis provides consultation and expert testimony to attorneys and their clients on child custody and family law related matters.

As a consultant, Dr. Davis advises various professional groups on the underlying dynamics that operate within organizations. Additionally, Dr. Davis provides ongoing clinical supervision and professional development consultation to pre-licensed doctoral or master level trainees pursuing careers in mental health or social work. Dr. Davis has taught several courses and provides workshops on diversity issues to various graduate schools and mental health agencies throughout the Bay Area.

In 2000, Dr. Davis received his Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, located in Orinda, California. In 1997, Dr. Davis received his bachelor's degree in Psychology from Hayward State University.
