Pertinent information for court-involved children and parents.

Dr. Davis is well aware that being involved in a family court case is often extremely costly and stressful (and sometimes even traumatic) for children and parents.  This is why he has a passion for providing alternative dispute resolution services to court-involved children and families.  Alternative dispute resolution services (which usually are much cheaper than litigation services) include but are not limited to what follows:  parenting plan (child custody) evaluations, child custody recommending counseling or mediation, parenting coordination, co-parenting counseling, and individual parent coaching.  Even with the aformentioned services, children and families still experience some stress but likely much less than if they solely or mostly rely upon litigation and the adversarial court system to resolve their disputes.

Dr. Davis's primary aim in this area of work is to help parents, attorneys, and judges focus on the child(ren)'s needs or develop what is referred to as a "child-centered" perspective in their family law case.  To achieve this, Dr. Davis typically assesses or evaluates the entire family system which includes meeting with children, parents, and any other person (professional and/or non-professional) who might have knowledge about the primary issues in the family system, reviewing documents (often provided by attorneys), and writing and submitting a comprehensive report.  Lastly, it is not uncommon for parents to be upset and/or disgruntled with Dr. Davis's work because parents are often overwhelmed and in "fight-or-flight" or survival mode due to being involved in intensive litigation, and they have a limited capacity to focus on their child(ren)'s needs and/or hear other perspectives about what is best for their child(ren); however, Dr. Davis does his best to show parents, attorneys, and the Court that he was prudent and thorough in his assessment and evaluations, and more often than not, this usually puts everyone at ease and increases the likelihood of a family law case settling as opposed to increasing litigation.

Dr. Davis strongly recommends that parents meet and confer with at least two to three mental health professionals before deciding to work with one so that they feel comfortable and confident that they will
